Flue Gas & Odor Removal

Odor Removal

Our company can supply different solutions by using various processes for the subject of odor removal which has become important nowadays. Foul odor from wastewater and wastewater treatment plants is usually caused by H2S, NH3, SO2, some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and mercaptans. In additionally, ARBIOGAZ can offer special solutions for odors from industrial plants.

Flue Gas Treatment

Flue gas produced from different sources contains hazardous pollutants such as SO2, SO3, H2S, HCl, and HF. These gases have significant effects on human health and the environment. In terms of human health, it has short term impact such as irritation of eyes, nose and throat and upper respiratory infection and long term effects such as chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease and diseases in brain and nerves. Water and soil pollutions, damaging aquatic life and building corrosion are among the environmental impacts. Also it has very high contribution to global warming.

Limit values regarding flue gases are determined in Industrial Air Pollution Control Regulation published by Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning. The systems that ensure to not exceed these limits and discharge filtrated harmful gases of industrial plants to the atmosphere are flue gas treatment systems.

Chemical Odor Removal

Chemical Odor Treatment is an effective method which especially used for treatment of odor caused by certain chemicals.  It can be preferred for high concentrated pollutions; land requirement is less compared to biological methods.

These processes which occur in continuously circulated treatment bed with the principle of oxidation of materials causing odor by various chemicals used for odor treatment can be offered as a single or multi stages.

Also it is possible to supply solutions that work in series with biological systems if removal of hard to remove or high concentrated odors or in addition to these odors total odor removal is requested.

Basically, chemical odor treatment systems compose of exhaust-air duct, exhaust air suction fans, scrubber or scrubbers, chemical storage tanks and dosage systems, circulation pump and instruments required for system operation.

Biological Odor Removal

Variable solutions can be provided for biological odor removal. The most widely used of these is biofilter. Odor removal can be ensured by using biological scrubbers and biotrickling filters as well.

Basically, these systems work with the principle of biological removal of chemicals cause odor by contacting odorous gases with biomass which generated on a bed.

Biofilters

It is the most commonly used odor removal system. Land requirement is more than the other systems. However, it provides high efficiency odor removal with minimum operation cost.

In the biofilters, biomass is generated on a specially processed biological bed (bark, etc.). Basically, biofilters consist of exhaust-air duct, exhaust air suction fans, filter bed air humidifier system and filter bed. Area where the filter is placed can be made of reinforced concrete or panels which can be produced by various materials as well. Land requirement is higher than the other systems.

Bio-scrubbers

Bioscrubbers operate with the principle of providing odor removal by contacting biomass generated in a scrubber with chemicals that make odor under continuous circulation. Suitable surface is provided for biomass by using packing media made of different plastic materials in the towers. Parameter based odor removal or total odor removal can be provided with high efficiency.

Biotrickling filter

Biotrickling filters work as Bio-scrubbers but there is no continuous circulation so that removal of more parameters can be achieved by providing biomass diversity.  Instead of constant circulation, process is controlled by intermittent water feeding.

Photoionization

These are the systems that work in principle of a reaction which starting with destruction and oxidation of chemical materials cause odor by using ultraviolet in specific wavelengths and finalizing in catalytic surface area. These are easier systems compared to the biological systems in terms of startup and process control, it begins to treat readily when the system opens, except consumables and standard mechanical controls there is not any process to be followed. Especially it is effective for removal of odor caused by H2S and VOC.

Basically these systems consist of exhaust-air duct, exhaust air suction fan, a reactor where UV lamps placed and a tank where catalyst material placed.
